About

Background

Shloka Porwal is a choreographer and dancer from Jaipur, India, currently based in New York City. Her work explores the connection between body, mind, and spirit, aiming to create performances that resonate on emotional, social, and political levels. With a strong interest in psychology and the mind-body relationship, she approaches choreography as a space for both artistic expression and personal transformation. Alongside her choreographic work, she is also pursuing dance therapy, deepening her commitment to movement as a tool for global change.

Choreography and performance

Shloka has choreographed a diverse body of work that has been presented across continents, reflecting a global and evolving artistic voice. Her choreographies have been performed at venues and institutions including NYU Tisch School of the Arts, the Alvin Ailey Theater, Netherlands Dance Theatre, LINES Ballet, the Institute of Classical and Modern Dance (India), and Grand Ballon India, among others.

As a performer, she has worked with and embodied the visions of renowned choreographers and companies, including Ronald K. Brown, Alonzo King, Marco Goecke, Amos Ben-Tal, Peter Chu, David Dorfman, Gibney Company, Sean Curran, Ernesta Corvino, Doug Varone, Gus Solomons Jr., Erika Pujic, and Ilana Goldman. Her performance experience spans a range of movement languages—from contemporary and Afro-modern to classical and experimental forms—contributing to a versatile and deeply embodied artistic practice.
